What is Powder Horn?

  • It is a high adventure resource management course based primarily on experiencial learning.
  • It's a lot of fun, but the most important part is bringing knowledge of how to run a higher quality program back to your unit.

Why should I consider going?

  • You want to ensure a quality program for your youth.
  • You want to learn more about the Venturing Ranger Award program.
  • You want to have lots and lots of fun!

Who can go?

  • Any registered, trained scouting leader which include:
    • Venturing Advisors and Associate Advisors
    • Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters
    • Sea Scout Skippers and Mates
    • Commissioners
    • District and Council Leaders
    • Professional Staff

Where is it?

  • Camp Black Mountain near Maple Falls, WA
  • In the heart of the North Cascades

What will we do there?

  • We will cover in one way or the other most of these activities:
    • Backpacking
    • Kayaking
    • Canoeing
    • Whitewater Rafting
    • Swimming
    • Rifle Shooting
    • Black Powder Shooting
    • Pistols
    • Shotgun Shooting
    • Rock Climbing
    • Mountaineering
    • Outdoor Communication
    • Cooking - Backpacking stoves, fires, dutch ovens, utensiless, etc.
    • Emergency Preparedness
    • Expedition Planning
    • First Aid
    • Plants
    • Wildelife & Ecology
    • Wilderness Survival
    • Land Navigation
    • Leave No Trace
    • Outdoor Living History
    • Most imporantly - Working with Teens!

How much is it?

  • A $50 deposit is due with your application
  • If you pay the remainder by January 31st, 2008, the total cost will be $225
  • If you pay the remainder after that, it is $250

What do I need to bring?

  • Personal Camping gear for a high adventure backpacking trip (this will not be strenuous)
    • Adventurous Clothing for multiple conditions (warm weather, rain, snow)
    • Sleeping bag
    • Sleeping pad
    • Camera (optional)
  • A Good attitude

 

How do I get signed up?

  1. Decide you are going to attend the best Powder Horn Course west of the Rockies
  2. Print out the COURSE FLYER and registration form
  3. Fill out registration materials and send deposit to:
