The inductions team is responsible to conduct Ordeal weekends, put on Brotherhood ceremonies at lodge events, and to ensure that all troops in the council have an opportunity to participate in the Order of the Arrow by having a unit election. You can find many Inductions-related files on the “Resources” page of the lodge website.
Vision
Provide candidates from all troops in the council with inductions experiences of the highest possible quality and build for the future.
Get Involved with Inductions
There are lots of ways to get involved with the inductions process. One of the best things you can do if you are excited about the inductions process is to ask your chapter chief if you can become a chapter vice-chief for Ceremonies, Elections, or Elangomats. If he says yes, you become a member of the lodge committee for that position (see below). If your chapter already has all these positions filled (it probably doesn’t), you can start a chapter ceremonies team, be an elangomat for the next ordeal, or help with unit elections for your chapter. We can always use more people. If you need ideas, email the LEC and Inductions Vice-Chief Andrew S. will respond. Other resources include the Lodge Elangomat Handbook and Elections Forms, which can be found under “Resources” here on the SML website. Also, check out the “National Publications Page” under “Links”. The Guide to Inductions is a great resource for ceremonies teams and any member who wants to know more about Inductions.
Committees
Our lodge has an Inductions Vice-Chief who supervises three committees responsible for the details of Inductions. Our Inductions committees meet during the LEC in odd months. We have three committees: Ceremonies, Elections, and Elangomats. These committees are made up of the chapter vice-chiefs for those positions.
Ceremonies
The ceremonies committee is not yet fully up and running. The first ceremonies committee meeting will be held during the May LEC. Currently, the chapter ceremonies vice-chiefs are working to prepare ceremonies teams for the Spring Ordeal.
Elangomats
The chairman of the Elangomat committee is Paul B. The elangomat committee met for the first time in November, with Paul and Kevin Z. present. Items of business included choosing a chairman, and developing a plan to recruit and train a core group of elangomats. The Elangomat committee also met in conjunction with the Elections committee in January to discuss the Spring Ordeal. Kevin Z. was present. The Elangomat committee is working to recruit and train elangomats for the Summer Ordeal. They did not meet in March
Elections
The chairman of the elections committee is Brady G. The first committee meeting was held in November, with Ryan M. and Paul J. from Whatcom, Brady G. from Skagit, and Kenton S. from Skagit in attendance. The second committee meeting was held in January. Attendance was not taken. The elections committee has set a goal to do one unit election per chapter per week until all elections are done. Currently, they are working to implement this plan by setting up better communication and are developing a centralized tracking system. The committee did not meet in March.
LOGISTICS TEAM
The logistics team is a new group just being formed to deal with ceremonies set up and other logistical details at Ordeals. This is intended to take the pressure off the ceremonialists and allow them to focus on delivering a great ceremony. The logistics team is led by Morgan N. The first ordeal with the logistics team was the Spring Ordeal at Fire Mountain. All the ceremonialists and staff commented on how great it was to have everything in place on time. The ceremonies sites looked great, and everything else that logistics was responsible for was done very well.
