A pleasant hike through magnificent
stands of virgin timber, this trail provides a look into the past.
Once used as the route to a lookout on Three Fingers, all that is
left of Boulder River is a gentle heavily used trail up the Boulder
River. At 0.9 miles from the beginning, a side trail drops to the
remnants of an old shelter and several nice campsites. At 1.2 miles
a series of cascades and waterfalls are seen on the river where
a side trail leads to the base of the falls and small campsites.
At 2.5 miles, the timber grows thick and the river can only be heard.
At 4 miles the trail descends down to Boulder Ford, where the trail
now ends but at one time lead up to the Three Fingers lookout.
Directions: Take Highway #530
to milepost #41 and turn south onto road #2010 and drive 3.7 miles
passing French Creek Campground to the trailhead on the right.
